Mum left with 4,000 legal bill after judge throws out bingo hall compensation claim

A MUM who sued for compensation after bruising herself in a bingo hall loo faces a £4,000 legal bill after a judge threw out her case.

Rosemary Brennan, 35, slammed her left shoulder on a toilet roll holder while sitting when “desperate” for a wee.

Her barrister Tom Seamer claimed the “large” dispenser was a potential danger as the Mecca Bingo cubicle in Camden, North London, was the “small and confined”.

He argued that Mecca Bingo could have moved the dispenser to a safer position, fitted a smaller one, or put up a warning sign.

But Judge Benjamin Wood told her: “It was not a hazard, it was a toilet roll dispenser. One must take care in confined spaces.

“One must take care when one’s trousers are around one’s ankles.

“One must take care when going backwards and one must take care when sitting down.” He ordered the teaching assistant, a mother of two, to pay costs.

Rosemary, of Holborn, central London, said yesterday: "I had a huge black bruise on my shoulder and couldn't lift my arm - the pain was excruciating - the worst I've known.

“I haven’t just spent a penny, I’ve spent £4,000 going to the loo.

"I felt I had a genuine case but it’s turned into the most expensive wee ever.”
