Jacqueline Avant was arguably best known as the wife of famed music executive Clarence Avant, who often went by the nickname, The Black Godfather.

The pair tied the knot in 1967 and were married up until her 2021 passing.

Throughout the course of their marriage, Jacqueline stood by Clarence's side as he worked with the likes of Bill Withers, L.A. Reid, and Babyface, and as he was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

What happened to Jacqueline Avant?

Jacqueline's life came to an end on December 1, 2021, after she was shot at her Beverly Hills home during a horrific robbery.

Police responded to a home invasion call at 2.30am and found Jacqueline "cradling her head on the floor," according to The New York Times.

The outlet notes that she had been shot in the back with a rifle.

Los Angeles resident Aariel Maynor was taken into custody shortly after the incident and later pleaded guilty to first-degree murder, attempted murder, firearm possession, and residential burglary.

He was then sentenced to 190 years in prison in April 2022.

"Today marks the end of a tragic case that rocked our community," Los Angeles district attorney George Gascón said in a statement.

"Because of a completely senseless act, Los Angeles lost Jacqueline Avant, a community leader and philanthropist."

At the time of the murder, Maynor was on parole, and because of California's three-strikes law for repeat offenders, he was able to receive a lengthy sentence, The Times notes. Maynor will not be eligible for parole.

Less than two years after Jacqueline's murder, Clarence passed away at the age of 92.

While Clarence might've been busy building a music empire, it did not stop him from having kids.

Throughout the course of their marriage, Clarence and Jacqueline welcomed two children, a son Alexander and a daughter Nicole.

Alexander followed in his father's footsteps and is now known for his career as a music producer and manager, while Nicole went into politics.

After graduating from California State University, Northridge, she became the vice president of Interior Music Publishing, her father's music company, and was then appointed the United States Ambassador to the Bahamas by Barack Obama.
